Lemon Falls
Lemon Falls is one of the lesser-known but most photogenic of the Thousand Springs waterfalls — a spring-fed cascade that drops down the canyon wall on the south side of the Snake River, opposite Ritter Island. The falls are part of the Ritter Island Unit of Thousand Springs State Park and visible from a trail south of the Idaho Power parking area on Lemon Falls Road. The falls themselves come from the Snake River Aquifer — the massive underground water system that emerges in dozens of springs along this stretch of canyon. The water cascades down the basalt cliff face in several distinct ribbons before joining the Snake River below. For full access to Ritter Island itself — the historic island with the dairy barn, footbridges, and additional trails — you need to visit between Memorial Day and Labor Day, when the seasonal access is open. A side trail from the main path leads to Split Rock, with great views of the Snake River Canyon and the Hagerman Valley.
